Why Kristaps Porzingis skipped a Knicks exit meeting: 'Shattered' Episode 6 - The Athletic

Kristaps Porzingis’ frustration with the Knicks was fully evident when he skipped an exit meeting with Phil Jackson after the 2016-17 season, as detailed in Episode 6 of the podcast "Shattered: Hope, Heartbreak and the New York Knicks."

The Knicks finished the season, Porzingis’ second, 31-51. Jeff Hornacek, the Knicks' coach at the time, said he believed Porzingis was frustrated with the organization's lack of direction under Jackson, then the team's president.

“Even though it was going to be his team, he saw the roster and I think he was thinking that, you know, I’m not sure how good this team is going to be,” Hornacek said.

Episode 6 of "Shattered" explores Jackson's three-year tenure in New York. The skipped exit meeting came just two months before he and the Knicks parted ways in June 2017. Porzingis played only 48 more games for the franchise before he tore his ACL and was eventually traded to the Dallas Mavericks.
