The Texas Department of Transportation on Saturday plans to open a new exit ramp connecting northbound Interstate 35E to the Dallas North Tollway in what officials called “a major traffic switch.”

TxDOT officials said the current connector ramp is being permanently closed. The new one will open about half a mile to the south, right before crossing under Woodall Rodgers Freeway.

Drivers on I-35E hoping to cross over to the tollway should keep an eye out for the 429B exit sign, which will be at the ramp’s new location. They are advised to prepare to take the earlier exit to get to the tollway.

Motorists on Woodall Rodgers Freeway who plan to use the exit ramp to northbound I-35E should use the Oak Lawn exit to access the Dallas North Tollway, officials said. They can also cross to I-35E from Interstate 30 to use the new tollway exit ramp.

The switch was made as part of the $79 million Lowest Stemmons project, which is part of a statewide effort to relieve traffic congestion in major metropolitan areas, TxDOT officials said.

The new ramp’s opening could be postponed depending on the weather, officials said.
