FRISCO -- The Cowboys have been without their starting right tackle for all of training camp.
On Thursday, they lost their starting left tackle for the time being, too.
Tyron Smith walked off the outdoor field at The Star with an athletic trainer, exiting early in practice during the team’s individual period. Later, after the club moved indoors to the Ford Center, nickel cornerback Jourdan Lewis exited a team drill with a lower-left leg injury.
The Cowboys have been woefully shorthanded at offensive tackle this camp.
In five practices, starting right tackle La’el Collins hasn’t taken a single rep in team drills. He worked to the side with trainers and did some individual drills early in camp, but his activity level appears to have been scaled back in recent days.
Collins wasn’t on the field Thursday.
Also, swing tackle Cam Erving hasn’t attended a camp practice. He is known to be dealing with a medical issue unrelated to COVID-19.
On Wednesday, the Cowboys worked out three offensive tackles. Of them, they signed one, Pace Murphy, to provide an extra body at the position.
Wyatt Miller and Brandon Knight were busy in practice Thursday with Smith, Collins and Erving all unavailable. Knight himself entered camp with a minor injury, but he has transitioned to full participation.
Cornerback Anthony Brown tweaked his right arm in a 7-on-7 drill early in practice. Following on-field evaluation, he returned.
